So what?
Okay, great, you're a big sibling. Who cares? The thing is, my individual reflection has shed light on the much larger and complex dynamic between brother and sister. Take this to be my analyzed set of guidelines.
- Older Sibling: The younger sibling looks up to the older one. If you're the older sibling, don't abuse this power. You, arguably, have more influence over the younger genetically similar being of you than your parents do. Teach them.
- Younger one, yes, they're older and (usually) bigger, but age and size have no correlation to intelligence and mentorship. Sometimes, you're just stuck with a bad-influence...don't follow suit.
- Gender is molded as a child grows. As numerous scientific studies have shown, little boys and little girls independently seek "stereotyped games." Know that children will follow the games of their older siblings as a means of approval. This has little bearing on the games they individually seek out.
- Parents are accustomed to the "ways of the world" by the time the second sibling has reached the milestones of the older one. Sometimes, you have to deal with the double standard. It's life.
- Older sibling's experiences can impact the interest of their younger relative(s). It is not uncommon for the younger sibling to want nothing to do with the profession of the older one. Depending on the person's personality, they will either attach to the older sibling's interests OR completely deviate from any similarity.
